You can pretty much think of Military Madness as a lost branch of Nintendo's "Wars" series, except with a hex grid rather than a square one, and the fact that you can't build new units (but you can capture factories to repair your existing ones). There are a few new mechanics, though, such as granting bonuses depending on the number of units surrounding your attacking unit and your units becoming a bit more powerful each time they engage an enemy unit and survive. However, the online manual is surprisingly unhelpful in explaining these things; in fact, it doesn't really tell you much except about basic moving and attacking. I guess they were just in a rush to get the game out or something. ¶ Recommended if you like strategy titles. Try to find a guide or a manual before you play, though. ¶ UPDATE: Found a pretty good site about the game and its mechanics here. There are a lot of broken links, but you can check out the manual scans for specific info....

Are you currently staring at an exact duplicate of yourself? Run. Run away. Read this page, then go back. ¶ A common Doppleganger is what you are dealing with. Their bodies change shape, their minds sharpen, and their clothes morph around until eventually they look and think exactly like you. This is a major problem for most magic type adventurers because they know every spell that you do. Fortunately if you know a teleport spell you can just zip right by him and take off before he can do anything. Brawler type adventurers should have a little trouble with them, as they match your strength, but the gear they carry is just cheap knockoffs of your enchanted gear. Thief types should be able to sneak right by them, no problemo. On the event that you do get caught, just kick him in the crotch. Theres some shit about a cauldron spewing lava everywhere and a fairy that hangs out with a bunch of cartoon demons but whatever. you're fishing and you have to capture five thousand-year-old fish to stop that crazy ass cauldron, and to catch these old-fuck fish, you need to catch a lot of other fish and sell them. No problem for most fishermen, but Cocoto, in his infinite stupidity...

Recognized as the game many bought Capcom Puzzle World for (only to be disappointed when they realized that Sony apparently has no qualms against selling completely non-functional software) SPF2HD is a fortunately crash-free version of a solid competitive puzzle game. The game is based around matching up groups of blocks to form large gems and then destroying them with a "crash gem" to flood your opponent's screen with junk blocks, with the exact color pattern they fall in being determined by your selected character. ¶ New to the HD version (graphical enhancements aside) are three new modes: A rebalanced plain game mode, two alternate game modes that resemble Columns and Tetris Attack in gameplay, and perhaps most notable of all, online play for 2-4 players. Unfortunately the game seems to have gone the way of Chu Chu Rocket; with new content coming out it's been left in the dust. I managed to play exactly one match and haven't seen a single other person on the servers since....

A game that a lot of people know about but few seem to have actually played, Alien Hominid is pretty much a Metal Slug clone with a few new abilities for your character - namely an aerial dodge, the ability to burrow under the ground to avoid attacks (and kill enemies) and, perhaps most amusing, the ability to jump on an enemy's shoulders and bite their head off (which causes all other soldiers in the vicinity to freak out momentarily, giving you a chance to blast them as well). It's actually a pretty fun game in spite of its high challenge. The only thing that annoys me is that it's sometimes difficult to pick out enemy bullets among the game's bright colors, so you can end up getting hit by shots that you can't even see. Well, that and the very short respawn invincibility time; you literally have about half a second of grace before you're vulnerable again, so you'll have to be really careful not to be in the way of something that can kill you. ¶ So yeah, if you've never playe...

Like most of his early works, it's almost impossible to find in a non-MSTed format, but Commuterbarnacle managed to recover a relatively unscathed (albeit incomplete) version, so thanks to them. ¶ Oh, and there's a bit more of it here in MSTed format.

Giant skeletons still lay in the streets, some underneath heaps of rubble. The survivors only managed enough manpower to move a few of the dead gigas raiders out of a small area, just big enough for them and their families to live in. Everything of value to the raiders was taken in massive leather bags, leaving behind small scraps of food. The vegetable gardens, thankfully, were untouched.

A fun little puzzle game, combining elements of Lemmings and Solomon's Key. The goal is to collect all the eggs on each stage without getting trapped or killed by the enemies. For some stages you'll also get items like bridges to span small gaps or the ability to teleport short distances. While quite possibly being the largest downloadable game on the VC at an enormous 289 blocks, this is worth checking out if you like puzzle games.

I felt compelled to make this after thinking about the pile of lowest-common-denominator pandering crap that Family Guy has become. I must say, I come up with some pretty awesome shit while running on 3 hours of sleep and working a 9 hour shift. ¶ So yeah, basic Bingo rules here: If you can match up five in a row horizontally, vertically or diagonally, you win! Hell, see if you can go for a blackout; I know from experience that it's possible with some episodes. ¶ And if you're thinking I whipped this up in 45 minutes in MSpaint, you're absolutely correct.
